Inspection & Quality Control
To preserve and maintain our high quality in the manufacturing of LPG cylinders, SMPC executes a full quality control system to ensure our product conformity to international quality standards.
Hydrostatic Test is accomplished by applying water pressure into the cylinder to reach designated pressure levels to detect for any possible leakage, bulging or distortion.
Air Leakage Test is performed by applying at least 140 PSI or 10 BAR of compressed air pressure into the cylinder before immersing the cylinder completely in water for 30 seconds to check for any possible leak
Burst Test is accomplished by applying water pressure into the cylinder until the cylinder is bursting. The bust pressure must lower than the Minimum Burst Pressure which is specified by the manufacturing standard.
Permanent Volumatic Expansion is accomplished by applying water pressure into the cylinder and be maintained at the test pressure by holding time which is specified by the manufacturing standard. After removing the pressure, Permanent Volumatic Expansion must not exceed the maximum limit which is specified by the manufacturing standard.
Radiographic Test (RT) is a test criterion for the Quality Assurance team by using an x-ray coating gauge to examine for any defects of spud /bung welds, circumferential welds, and longitudinal welds of cylinders.
Macro –Etch Test is aimed at examining the weld quality by using etchant at critical points such as spud, collar, foot ring, along the circumferential weld, and longitudinal weld of the cylinder.
Hardness Test is an inspection procedure to examine the hardness of parent materials, welds, and HAZ (heat affected zones) of spud/bung, collar, foot ring, circumferential weld, and longitudinal weld of the cylinder after the heat-treatment process.
Micro Structure Test is an inspection procedure to examine the grain size of the structure of parent material, and weld of cylinder.

Yield and Tensile Test is a mechanical test of parent material, circumferential weld, and longitudinal weld of the heat-treated cylinder to determine the tensile strength, yield strength, and parentage of elongation.
Bending Test is a test for cracks and any other non-conformance on the welding surface.
Thread Projector Test is a test for threading quality of the valve connecting area.
